Phillip Morris
Head of Household Energy Services (Acting)

Phillip joined CSE in August 2009 and currently oversees CSE’s domestic energy efficiency schemes including Warm Streets, a Somerset-wide project which aims to help householders access grants for home insulation, promote sustainable energy solutions, and increase the uptake of benefits in the area by making sure householders receive all their relevant benefits.

Phillip also designed and manages a number of Hard to Treat pilots in the Somerset region looking at the challenges of improving the energy efficiency of houses where more expensive measures like solid wall insulation are required. Phillip is responsible for taking the learning from these pilot projects and sharing it with other stakeholders and exploring the impact on the future of energy efficiency in domestic properties, specifically the Green Deal.

Before joining CSE, Phillip managed a number of national energy efficiency projects for Bristol-based sustainability consultancy, Sustain. Phillip is also a trained Domestic Energy Assessor and has worked in water resources planning and hydrometry for the Environment Agency.

Phillip has a BSc degree in Environmental Science (1st) from the University of the West of England.

Danni Barrett
Energy Advisor

Danni originally joined CSE in 2008, and rejoined the team in August 2010 after a brief spell in Scotland. She works on a range of domestic and community advice projects including for CSE Communities and the Energy Saving Trust’s National Energy Advice Service.

Danni has previously worked in a range of environmental roles, including stints as an education officer, a recycling officer, an environmental researcher and a Climate Challenge project manager. She has also volunteered for a number of social and environmental organisations including: ANAI in Costa Rica, the South Downs Voluntary Rangers, Climate Action Bedminster, Emmaus and NACOA.

She graduated from Portsmouth University in 2005, with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Sustainable Design and Environmental Management.

Liz Dagger
Community Outreach Worker

Liz joined CSE in March 2005. In her role as an outreach worker she spends a lot of time out and about, promoting energy efficiency in the local Bristol community and further afield in rural Somerset.

In her varied career Liz has held a number of public-facing jobs enabling her to communicate well with people from all walks of life. She has previously worked at NatWest Bank for 23 years, in her local post office, as a learning support assistant at a south Bristol secondary school with young people aged 11-16 who had special educational needs, and even as a lollipop lady.

Lisa Evans
Senior Energy Advisor

Lisa joined CSE in September 2002 and advises members of the public who are living in fuel poverty. She has extensive experience of outreach and energy advice having worked on a range of local authority supported projects and in the advice centre. Lisa’s most recent work has been in assisting in the development and the day-to-day running of the Warming Bristol Communities project which supports people from black, Asian and other minority ethnic backgrounds. And Lisa has also been involved in CSE's volunteering projects, providing support to volunteers who are over the age of 50.

Prior to joining CSE, Lisa worked in healthcare, and was previously employed by Rethink, who were formerly the National Schizophrenia Fellowship, helping people who suffer with mental health problems to live independently, as well as for United Bristol Healthcare Trust, researching the services available for physically disabled school leavers. Lisa also has considerable skill working on a telephone advice line for people in crisis.

Lisa has a BA (Hons) in Health and Community Studies obtained at Chester University, and has also gained the City & Guilds Energy Awareness qualification.

Helen Grimshaw
Senior Project Worker

Helen joined CSE in November 2009 and currently works as an energy advisor for the South West National Energy Advice Service. Her role involves giving advice to householders on saving energy, including information about renewable technologies, grants and local schemes. Helen also delivers energy advice on different CSE managed projects such as the Bristol Energy Efficiency Scheme, Warm Streets and Somerset West Hard to Treat, helping householders access information and grants for home insulation.

Prior to joining CSE, Helen worked as an energy advisor for the Lancashire Energy Efficiency advice centre, and she has experience in a number of voluntary and customer service roles.

Helen has an MSc in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy at Cardiff University (2008-2009) and a BA (Hons.) in Geography from the University of Manchester, graduating in July 2007. Helen also has the NEA/City & Guilds 6176 ‘Energy Awareness’ and ‘Renewable Energy in the Home’ (6176-02) and recently obtained an NVQ Level 3 in Providing Energy Efficiency Services.

Sarah Jeffrey (currently on maternity leave)
Head of Household Energy Services

Sarah is currently on maternity leave.

Sarah joined CSE in June 2005 and became Head of Household Energy Services in April 2011. Her current role sees her managing and developing the organisation’s energy advice projects and its insulation schemes, with a particular focus on how CSE responds to the opportunities emerging from the creation of the Government’s new Green Deal programme.

She recently managed CSE’s innovative Warming Bristol Communities project which saw her setting up a volunteer programme with different Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Communities. Volunteers then partner with CSE’s Energy advisors to deliver advice to their local community in the householder’s first language.

In her previous role at CSE, Sarah demonstrated extensive experience in developing and managing projects to engage all sections of the community in new and innovative ways. This includes the transition to the new model of advice delivery on behalf of the Energy Saving Trust and developing and fostering relationships with other third sector organisations to deliver effective fuel poverty advice.

Since graduating from university, Sarah has gained almost a decade of experience of working in the third sector. Previous roles include a fundraising and grant management role at Help the Aged and a project management role at the British Heart Foundation, managing aspects of a £1m specialist nurse project.

Sarah graduated from the University of Manchester with a BA in English Language and Literature in 2000.

Natalie Marino
Energy Advisor

Natalie joined CSE in 2011 as an Energy Advisor, and works primarily for the Home Energy Team providing energy efficiency advice to householders via CSE’s telephone line and outreach work in the local area. Natalie also works on the Keep Warm in Bristol project and the Bristol Energy Action Network scheme.

Prior to joining CSE Natalie worked for Energy Action Devon organising and staffing community and employee engagement events, as well as providing advice on the Energy Saving Trust advice line for National Energy Action South West. She has a background in customer service, training and events, having previously worked for a large wine company, and the Labour Market and Recruitment Advice team within Jobcentre Plus.

Natalie completed a HND in Environmental Science at the University of Plymouth and whilst at Energy Action Devon, gained NEA/City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness and NEA/City and Guilds 6176 Renewable Energy in the Home qualifications and completed a National Energy Action course on Fuel Debt Advice in the Community.

Michael McClelland
Scheme Manager

Mike joined CSE in January 2009. His role involves the coordination and management of a number of schemes within CSE which aim to help householders access information and grants for home insulation, including the Bristol Energy Efficiency Scheme, Warm Streets and Somerset West Hard to Treat.

He has worked in both the public and private sectors prior to joining CSE, and has a background in project management and customer services built up through his professional experience since graduating in 2002.

Mike has a BA (hons) in Business and Tourism which he gained whilst studying at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff, as well as an NEA/City & Guilds 6176 qualification in ‘Energy Awareness’, which he uses to plan and deliver projects.

Pauline Sandell
Fuel Poverty Advisor

Pauline joined CSE in September 2007 and currently works on CSE’s household energy advice projects, Warming Bristol Communities, Warmer improved Somerset Homes and the Warms Streets benefits programme. She also manages the Bath and North East Somerset SLA and works on various other household energy projects. She's also CSE’s expert in welfare benefits and uses this expertise to help clients maximise their income and to help alleviate fuel poverty. As well as providing phone advice to householders and presentations to community groups, she also gives training to a wide variety of organisation on ways to help alleviate fuel poverty.

Prior to joining CSE, Pauline had a varied career - she is a qualified nurse and worked for many years in the NHS. She has also worked at the Citizens Advice Bureau as money advice caseworker and taught adults contract law on a HND course at the City of Bath College.

Pauline has a law degree from the University of the West England, and during her time at CSE has competed the City & Guilds qualification in Energy Awareness and CSE’s renewable energy training. Pauline is also learning Swedish.

Verity Saunders
Senior Project Manager

Verity joined CSE in July 2001 following a spell working at the South West Regional Development Agency in Bristol. She currently works three days a week managing Bristol Get’s Energy, a project designed to maximise the potential for volunteers to support householders to take action on energy in the home and Warming Bristol Communities, helping disadvantaged members of Bristol's minority ethnic communities at risk of fuel debt.

Verity previously managed the Energy Saving Trust's Green Communities programme for over five years overseeing a national training programme, a 4500-member support network and an annual conference. Over the years, Verity has also managed a number of community outreach projects for CSE including Energy in Action, Warming Mendip, Bristol Energy Action Network, Benefiting from Warmth and WISH (Warmer Improved Somerset Homes).

She has a degree in Geography and Environmental Studies completed at the University of the West of England.

Mark Tyler
Energy Advisor

Mark joined CSE in January 2008 and works part of his time as an Energy Advisor in the National Energy Advice Service advice centre. This role involves giving advice to the public on how to save energy; information on renewable technologies; how to recycle/dispose of waste; methods of water conservation; and information on what grants are available to improve energy efficiency in the home.

The remainder of Marks time is spent as a Project Worker on various fuel poverty and community related projects including Warming Bristol Communities and Warm Streets Communities. His roles in each vary but generally consist of service user case work, home visits to service users, presentations, training sessions, advice stands at events, and marketing through press and local media.

Prior to CSE Mark worked for the Financial Services Authority advising members of the public on their personal finances.

Mark is studying towards a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Studies through the Open University and he has gained several qualifications whilst working at CSE including NEA/City & Guilds level 3 NVQ in 'Providing Energy Efficiency Services', NEA/City & Guilds 6176 'Energy Awareness', and NEA/City & Guilds 6176 'Renewable Energy in the Home'.

Jamie Walters
Energy Advice Project Manager

Jamie joined CSE as part of the Finance and Administration team in 2001. He moved to the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre in 2002 where he built up several years experience as a Senior Energy Advisor, a role involving face-to-face and over-the-phone advice to the public. His work also involved gathering data for local authorities to enable them to fulfil their Home Energy Conservation Act reporting.

Jamie has made several appearances on BBC local radio promoting energy efficiency in the home. From January 2009 to March 2012 Jamie was the Team Leader of the Bristol hub of the Energy Saving Trust advice centre (subsequently known as the National Energy Advice Service) a role which included responsibility for maintaining call quality standards and ensuring that the team met its targets for the installation of energy saving measures resulting from referrals to local grant schemes. Jamie has also worked on a variety of other projects for CSE including the Co-ordinated Woodfuels Initiative, Mendip Housing SLA and Warmer Lets.

Jamie now manages CSE’s Home Energy Advice Line. His responsibilities include daily supervision of the advice team, developing systems and procedures for delivering advice, and liaising with and reporting to funders. Jamie also manages the North Somerset Warm Families project which aims to help alleviate fuel poverty by offering advice and support to families in the North Somerset area.

Before he joined CSE Jamie was the Local Finance Administrator for Community Service Volunteers (CSV). Prior to this he worked for Bristol Cyrenians both at a day centre for street homeless people and for several years in residential care, working with adults with mental health problems.

Jamie has a BSc (Hons) Geography from the University of Plymouth. He also has City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness, City & Guilds 6176 Renewable Energy in the Home and NVQ Level 3 Providing Energy Efficiency Services.

Paul Winney
Senior Energy Advisor

Paul joined CSE in December 2009 as an Energy Advisor. He previously worked for the Energy Saving Trust advice centre Swindon hub. From Summer 2010 Paul became the Transport Coordinator for the Energy Saving Trust advice centre South West. Paul maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of sustainable transport matters and shares this with the rest of the advice centre.

Paul also delivers energy advice on different CSE managed projects which aims to help householders access grants for home insulation, promote sustainable energy solutions, and increase the uptake of benefits in the area by making sure householders receive all their relevant benefits.

Paul has completed a BSc (Hons) in Wildlife Conservation from the University of Plymouth and has previously worked for conservation charities such as the Barn Owl Trust and Moor Trees. He has also passed the City and Guilds Energy Awareness and Renewable Energy in the Home courses and gained an NVQ 3 Providing Energy Efficiency Services.
