Training for local authorities

Our training for local authorities is designed to improve carbon management, support sustainable energy in local policy and practice, and encourage staff to reduce energy use at work.

CSE provides training for local authority officers, including chief executives and other senior strategic staff, departmental managers, frontline staff and others. We also design courses for elected members.

We can deliver specific training support on a range of topics, including: low carbon planning policy; carbon management systems; energy and buildings; low carbon energy supply; supporting community-led sustainable energy projects; carbon costing/impact assessment; low carbon economic development; carbon reduction in schools; transport and smarter driving; and renewable energy technologies.

CSE’s acclaimed training courses and tools include our Local Carbon Management Matrix self assessment tool for local authorities, our CPD-accredited Renewable Energy Essentials course, and support on planning through our current PlanLoCaL programme and previous national training programme for the planning community. We can also provide workplace training such as Energy Champions for internal energy saving initiatives.

CSE also offers a range of other support for local authorities across the UK including area-based renewable energy resource assessments, technical feasibility studies for energy efficiency and renewables, community consultation and engagement on sustainable energy, and policy and strategy support. We also manage insulation schemes and undertake energy and fuel poverty outreach work on behalf of local authorities in our local area of Somerset and the West of England.
